I can't believe it's been 3 months since I last blogged - where does the time go?? Well it disappears in a whirlwind of weddings, prep, events, prep, wedding shows, marketing, admin... you get the picture haha! But here I am, ready to wax lyrical about the wedding shows I currently have planned for 2020. I'm sure more will be added as the year goes along but this is the score right now.
First up, & probably the most exciting, is my very first Anti Wedding Show. Now, just to clarify, I'm not anti wedding. Lord no, that'd be shooting myself in the foot somewhat! No, what I'm "anti" is pigeon-holing, forcing couples to fit with a certain theme from beginning to end.
"Rustic wedding" - "vintage wedding" - "traditional wedding" - what's "on trend"... etc etc. Themes that expect you to just fit perfectly with. What we call in the industry "cookie cutter weddings".
Now don't get me wrong, themes are a great way to START. I like a bit of lace (vintage), I love skulls (gothic), hessian ... actually hessian can sod off, it used to hurt my hands horribly when I did decor haha! But good for a rustic wedding.
But NONE of us are a set "theme" through and through,a re we? We like different elements, different flowers, different dresses (if dresses at all! Why not a jump suit?)
Why should we be JUST looking at 1 theme to fit the whole of our wedding?
Well we SHOULDN'T. We are all different, made of different elements, our personalities are different... so I came up with the Anti Wedding Show, a place to celebrate those differences.
As I say over at The Alternative Wedding Planner "your wedding YOUR way". The show in Bedford on Sunday 12 January will be a HUGE celebration of differences.
The other show I have planned is over at the GORGEOUS Flaxbourne Gardens in Aspley Guise. On Sunday 14 June, and then again Sunday 20 September. now if you've not been to Flaxbourne yet, then you HAVE to. Seriously, it's like a real life Wonderland! From the moment you walk in, you're transported into another world. You enter the grounds through a hidden grotto, complete with waterfall, then go past lakes, a moated castle, through tunnels filled with flowers... It's something else. You can get married on the main lawns, then party the evening away with you guests in the beautiful marquee that holds up to 250 guests. So if you're looking for a venue that's different to anywhere else, this is the one for you.
Details on both venues (& other upcoming shows) can be seen on the Facebook page, or you can join the database by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org - I promise no spam, just keeping you up to date on what's occurring here at Beckie Melvin Events.
Can't wait to meet you soon! Beckie xx
PS: Don't forget to join the Facebook page for updates & general chit chat, I update that more often than the blog!
So, you've spotted a wedding show in the area, you've marked the date in your diary, you've convinced your other half &/or family & friends to come with you... but how do you get the most out of the wedding shows you visit? It can be a little overwhelming when you first visit one, so here's a few things I thought would help you. Of course if you think of anything else or want some more info, then please do pop me an email. I'm also on Facebook & Instagram, where my feeds are filled with a mix of both business of shows & also some lighthearted stuff, so be sure to follow me there. Beckie xx
It's been a few weeks since I did an update on availability, so actually it's been a few MONTHS! I'm very out of practice but hope this year is the year I get better at blogging.
Our first event of 2017 was The Grand Hall in Bedford on Sunday 8 January, we had a fantastic turnout, so I fully expect the rest of 2017 to follow suit! (In fact the picture below is from Sunday's show, taken around 10 minutes after we opened)
(Sadly no photography slots available this year at the moment)

Thanks & take care
We were recently named as runner up in the English Wedding Awards "Events" category. I had to provide a supporting document, & I thought you'd like to see how I described the business. Thanks to all for voting for us, it was a a HUGE honour to get to the finals. Bxx
Beckie Melvin Events have a simple philosophy. We take the counties best independent venues, fill them with the top independent wedding specialists & suppliers, & bring them to the attention of discerning couples. We don’t run large events, instead preferring a more intimate approach.
This way, the couples can create a rapport with each supplier, including the venue, ensuring it’s a match made in heaven. We get to know each exhibitor personally, & see a high rebooking rate. Many have gone on to become friends outside of work as well, which is an added bonus!
The venues that we work with systematically rebook us time & again, agreeing that our approach of high levels of marketing, a personal relationship with each supplier, mixed with our levels of expertise in the industry all lead to successful fayres time and again.
Feedback from our events has been fantastic, & we’re thankful each & every time it’s received. However we never get complacent – each event has us wanting to reach more people, see more specialists boost their business, & get more bookings for the venues we’re working with.
Venue Feedback from some of our events in Autumn 2016:
(Venue) Hello Beckie! Thank you so much for the Wedding Fayre today, it looked really good :)
(Venue) really pleased with how September went too Beckie! You did a really good job for us and I am certain you'll smash next year too
(Venue) Hi Beckie, I’m very well and hope you are too :) Just wanted to say a big thank you for what deemed to be a very successful event on Sunday. We had so many positive comments from not only the wedding couples that came through the doors; but also the suppliers to say what an excellent turnout it was. It’s always lovely to hear everyone being so positive!
Thank you again – you superstar!!
Supplier Feedback from some of our events in Autumn 2016:
(Supplier) Dear Beckie - Thank you for your email and for a great day on Sunday.
(Supplier) Hi Beckie, Thanks so much for this Sunday. I really enjoyed it and it was a good turnout.
(Supplier) What a great day it's been at our first wedding fair of 2016.
Beckie Melvin Events is a VERY small operation, but with a HUGE amount of heart & passion. Owned & run by myself, Beckie Melvin, based in Bedfordshire. I’ve qualifications in Events & Hospitality, Marketing & Wedding Planning but I’m constantly wanting to learn more, in an effort to further improve the events experience for those I work with. I have a great network of close friends & family, all of whom I can’t thank enough for their continued support as I build my business. I’m blessed to be able to work with them, as well as making new friends from the shows I run.
I also support a national wedding charity through my work, I am the Bedfordshire ambassador for Gift of a Wedding. This wonderful charity provides dream weddings to couples facing terminal illness, often with just a few weeks notice. They make a HUGE difference to people’s lives but rely on donations from the public, from physical items such as dresses, rings & flowers, to services such as music, beauty & décor. I am able to offer my event planning services should they be required, & I also tell the couples I meet about the charity’s work, to help further their success. I think it’s safe to say that I live & breathe weddings!
I'm a qualified wedding planner dedicated to designing & creating weddings for alternative couples. Because everyone deserves a wedding as unique as they are
